Charleston Innovation that is Great for Travel - Mobile video broadcast

When people describe Charleston, you typically hear about the food, the hospitality, or maybe our southern accents. Not nearly so often do people describe Charleston as a growing technology hub. Well, despite our antebellum roots, Charleston is indeed home to a growing digital economy, dubbed Silicon Harbor.

One of Charleston’s newer software companies is InfiniteTakes, who recently launched their flagship product, is a free mobile app for Android and iOS that puts live video broadcasting at your fingertips. Full disclosure, my husband personally worked on this app, so I might be biased but a lot of other people think it’s awesome too!

I have found that is fabulous for travel, especially international travel. Many phone services now include free (or at least affordable) data plans while you’re internationally roaming, but they charge you out the bum for talking. This is where comes in: it’s a great way to show your family and friends back home what you are up to without having to spend money. When I’m traveling, I don’t always have time to stop what I’m doing and have a video chat. is a cool way for me to show family and friends what I’m up to.

If you don’t travel much, is still great because you can include people in local events: concerts, sporting events, and county fairs to name a few. You can also use it to share birthday parties, graduations, and other important events.

When we were recently in Philadelphia, I used a ton. I took whoever cared to watch on a tour of Edgar Allan Poe’s house and Independence Hall. It was really cool to share such monumental places with the world. is a great way to keep people included when you can’t be together. Share it with the world when you are doing something awesome like base jumping or trampling through the rainforest. is a free app that’s absolutely worth a download. Plus, you’ll be supporting the fabulous things that are happening here in Silicon Harbor.
